The most amazing restaurant that I have ever found. Abu was an absolute star and explained the menu with such love and clarity. I would eat here agin and again and again!!!!
The UK is crying out for genuine and authentic Bangladeshi restaurants, for proper Bengali dishes, and Dhoompan is an amazing example of this. The aesthetics represent our beautiful culture so well, both the inside and outside area as well as the passage in between. The menu makes you feel like you're at a dawat (a Bengali gathering) with the special dishes on offer! Aam baath (mango rice) and Bangla tea was great for ending the meal! Really enjoyed our experience, enjoyed the carrom on offer as well. Rare to find that available to play anywhere, and they had instructions which helped me and my wife learn how to play and have a few games. Being someone that loves his shisha, the shisha here was great. Flavour profile was as I described that I wanted. Genuinely all round lovely place and people. Can't wait to visit again!
Virtually all Indian restaurants in London are Bangladeshi-run but not many specialise in Bangladeshi food. Dhoompan is a family-run place serving both typical street food and home-style cooking with a modern twist. We had a selection of starters which were all great and a slow cooked curry accompanied by fluffy pilaf and light, fluffy and crispy naan. The curry was jammy and intense...no par-cooking, pots of pre-cooked gravies and sauces or packet spices here. Everything is cooked to order or slow-cooked using fresh spices. Highlight was their signature Aloo Gobi made with dates and the mango creme brulee was the perfect fusion dessert. Service from Aleema and Nita was spot on and even Chef Abu came and spoke to us, rightly proud of what he's cooking. Good selection of non-alcoholic drinks (mango lassi is excellent) and to top it off, you can play Carom. This is one of Londond best spots. Will be a regular haunt of mine from now on whenever I'm over from Australia.
Brilliant food and service was great. They make food per order so it does take a bit of time to serve but it is worth the wait. Price is good too. Staff did say they could cater for intolerances so will do so next time too. Will definitely come back.
Enjoyed every single item (we tried a lotttt of items!) everything was delicious, cooked to perfection and the flavours bought back childhood memories! Everything was 10/10! Can’t wait to revisit!
Dhoompan excels in so many areas. As a Bangladeshi myself I was keen to see a recreation of our home dishes in a restaurant environment and the authenticity is evident from the dishes, the decor and the ambience. If the cuisine and dishes aren’t familiar (which it may not be as it is rare to see the dishes eaten in a Bengali household sold in a restaurant setting) you’re given an explanation behind the ingredients and makeup of the dishes as well as personal recommendations. This is the first time I’ve ever seen tenga being served! It’s a rare opportunity to try things like borta and Khala bhuna. The service on that front is faultless and without doubt some of the best service I’ve come across. The variety of small ‘street food’ style snacks and then the fusion of modern western cuisine with Bengali dishes (the brisket naan is a genius combination) gives you a taste of the traditional if that’s what you’re after as well as the opportunity to try more fusion foods. Finally, the nods to Bengali culture are evident throughout from the Mr Naga pots, the ‘tin’ cups for your drinks and even the fandan for those who chew betel nut and leaf! If there’s one thing that sums the experience up it’s the concept of meman. You’ve visited someone’s house and they have hosted you and fed you till you burst Bengali hosting always emphasises focus on the food and ensuring guests leave happy and this is no exception. Without doubt will be back with family
What a gem. Absolutely the best Bangladeshi restaurant ive been too. Service is unreal. The owner comes and explains the whole menu. So much thought went into this place.
This Bangladeshi restaurant is excellent. The menu was explained to us in detail by the friendly staff Aleema and Nita. Highlight dishes we tried were the street food snacks like Jhal Muri. The Gunpowder chicken was fantastic and the Aloo Khobi was out of this world. We tried the naan and fragrant phulau with the khala bhuna (slow cooked, melt in your mouth beef). Abu, one of the owners, shared his passion for his food and culture with us. The mango lassi and mango creme brulee were delicious. Highly recommended. Come along - you won't be disappointed.
